UC San Diego's Percussion Ensemble "One Fish Two Fish" (MUS95F) presents their Winter Concert "Percussion is an Immersion", a program that is themed around the act of diving deep into local communities in a posture of listening and learning. By lowering ourselves and examining what is around us closely, new and exciting discoveries and relationships can be made, and this spirit is a profound ethic that characterizes the UC San Diego percussion ensemble. This quarter's program reflects this act by exploring percussion repertoire associated with some of our immediate and surrounding communities here at UC San Diego. In addition to social and cultural immersion, the concert offers a V-shaped progression of textural and musical heterogeneity, beginning and ending with expansive and joyfully melodic repertoire played on dozens of varied instruments, with the middle of the program narrowing into the interaction of individual keyboard instruments, individual natural objects found on the Earth, or even the interaction between two sonic frequencies in the air.
